Breaking! IRCC has announced new rules for international students, and the living cost requirements have been increased in Canada for international students. As of January 1, 2024, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has raised the financial requirement (cost-of-living) for single study permit applicants from $10,000 to more than double to $20,635.
This cost is in addition to the first-year tuition fee and travel cost of coming to Canada that an international student has to incur. This increase will apply to all new study permit applications received on or after January 1, 2024.
The IRCC also announced that the new financial guidelines will be applied to the Student Direct Stream (SDS). The SDS is a study permit stream for applications from residents of 14 countries that offers faster processing within 20 calendar days if certain requirements are met.

There’s no paper application for the Student Direct Stream so, you must apply online to get faster processing for your study permit.
