History of Swansea University

• Swansea university’s foundation was laid by the king George V in July 1920. Then there were only 89 students including 8 female students who enrolled in the same year. But the students increased to 485 by September 1939.
• In 1947 there were only two buildings on the campus such as Singleton Abbey and the Library.
• In 1960 a large scale program was developed like halls of residence, Maths and Science tower etc.
• In 1973 South Wales Miners’ library was established.
• In 1992 regional school of nursing were transferred to Swansea University
• In 2012 the university began an ambitious campus expansion development project.
• The Bay campus was established in 2015.
• In 2018 Swansea University made a joint venture with Naveta’s and opened a university college for pathway programs.

• Hendrefoilan Student Village: This student accommodation is also known as HSV or the village. It is popular for those students who are looking for a low cost accommodation. This accommodation center is two miles far from the Singleton Campus of Swansea University  but you will get bus service regularly to both campuses and the city center from there. Transportation system at Swansea University

Two campuses of  Swansea university require different transportation approaches to reach the university from Swansea. 

• By Taxi: If you take a taxi from Swansea train station it will take 10 minutes to reach Swansea University Singleton Park Campus and it will cost  £10. But if you want to go to the Bay Campus the cost will remain the same but it will take 15 minutes to reach the Bay Campus. 
• By Bus: To reach the Singleton Park Campus catch the bus number 3A, 4, 8 or 116. For the Bay Campus you should catch the bus number 8 and 10
