History of University of Dundee
University of Dundee has a royal history of becoming a public university from a college.
In 1881, Miss Mary Ann Baxter and her cousin donated £140000 to the creation of a college in Dundee. It was the beginning of university.
In 1897, an Unsettled situation was shaken up by the universities scotland act of 1889. Under the Act, commissioners were given the power to affiliate university college Dundee and make it part of St Andrews.
In 1960, there was only the Dentistry building, Belmont Halls and the Tower building.
In 1964, It was proposed that The Queens College should become an independent university.
And on 1 August 1967, University of Dundee was formally established by the Royal Charter. And the Queen’s Mother became the University’s first Chancellor.
The main campus of the university has incredibly changed over the 50 years. In recent times some rise in the modern feats of architecture has been such as Life Science Building, Dalhousie Building, Award- Winning School of Computing etc.
