Are you worrying about your PGWP in Canada? Here is a good news for you. The IRCC has added nine new courses to the list of PGWPs. Eligible courses related to early childhood care and child development.
This has been effected from December 17, 2024. The list of eligible fields of study reflects the need to address labour market shortages in early childhood education in Canada and has come as welcome news to the sector.
What is the Effectiveness of Adding New Courses in PGWP?
CBIE is pleased to see the new eligible fields of study for the PGWP. Early childhood care was a glaring omission from the original list as it is a well-known area of labour shortage across regions.
The specific categories include early childhood education and teaching, childcare and support services management, childcare providers and teaching assistants. This update is introducing new criteria for international students applying for a PGWP in Canada. Also, this update will reduce the long-term labour market shortage in Childcare.
New Course List of PGWP Programs in Canada
The initial list was divided into five broad categories. Which reflects Canada’s labour market needs. Such as:
- Agriculture
- Healthcare
- STEM
- Trade
- Transport
IRCC’s Opinion for New Update on PGWP Programs in Canada for International Students
IRCC thinks that the changes to the PGWP will allow international students to work in Canada for up to three years after graduating. It is driven by the IRCC’s overall goal of reducing temporary residents from 6.5% of Canada’s total population to 5% by 2026.
“IRCC is engaging directly with the provinces who are making the case for other additions to the list, and so we are hopeful to see further changes which will better reflect the very real labour market needs this country is facing at a regional level” -said Bezo.
