History

History of South Wales University

Though the history of the University of South Wales starts from a long ago, let’s know about it from its formation. In 2011, the Newport campus opened in the Newport city center. In April 2013, this university was formed following a merger of the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport. Since its formation, the university has offered over 500 courses, and welcomes students from 120 countries.

In November 2016, the Cardiff campus was officially opened. Moreover, in 2018, the USW sports park ws unveiled with the full-size indoor 3G football pitch.

Entry Requirements

Students from Bangladesh:

Undergraduate	Postgraduate	English Requirements
Applicants with A Level curriculum can be considered for a degree level entry.	A bachelor degree from a UK university.
HSC with A grade.	A first class undergraduate degree ( 4 Year)	GCSE English Grade C.
On a Business course, an HSC score with one or two B grades may be accepted.	A first class 2 year degree with a master’s degree.	IELTS 6.0 with no band less than 5.5. ( some courses may require higher score)
Students will be considered for a foundation course below A Grade in HSC	MBA applicants must have one of the above qualifications with 2 years of work experience.	University of SouthWales offers many English language courses for the students who don’t meet the requirements directly. ( Known as Pre-sessional English Course)

Foundation Year is also acceptable for students who don’t meet the direct entry requirements to the Year 1 of a Bachelor’s degree.

Students From Ghana :

Undergraduate	Postgraduate	English Requirements
The university recognises the WAEC and SSCE board exams. Such as- Students will be considered for a direct UG entry if they have 5 or more WAEC/NECO subjects with B3 or above including Mathematics and one Science. National Diploma for UG Programmes. Higher National Diploma or Polytechnic diploma for advanced entry to some UG programmes. Students with A level can get a direct entry to UG programmes.	Undergraduates with second class can be considered for the postgraduate course entry. Applicants with a masters degree can get an entry for PhD studies if they have suitable research proposals.	Senior School Certificate Grade C in English Language. GCSE/O Level at Grade C. IELTS 6.0 with no module less than 5.5

Foundation Year is also acceptable for the students who don’t meet the direct entry to the year 1 of a bachelor’s degree.

Students from India:

Overall 60-70% in the 12th standard. Students who have a UK HND or India Diploma in relevant subjects can get advanced entry to certain UG Program.	3 year degree with 60% from a recognised Indian university. 4-5 years degrees with 55% from a recognised university. 50% minimum from some universities. Such as: Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Jadavpur or Calcutta University.	HSC English-65-70% or above. IELTS 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 USW English test known as passward test. Other English Tests are also accepted.
Overall 60-70% in the 12th standard. Students who have a UK HND or India Diploma in relevant subjects can get advanced entry to certain UG Program.

Foundation Year is also acceptable for the students who don’t meet the direct entry to the Year 1 of a bachelor’s degree.

Students from Malaysia:

Undergraduate	Postgraduate	English Requirements
Cambridge GCE A level holders can have a direct admission to the first year degree programme. International Baccalaureate Diploma with A levels with minimum of 24 points obtained in Malaysia can directly admit to the first year degree programme. Polytechnic advanced diploma/ Higher national diploma holders can advance to the bachelor’s degree programme UEC holders senior middle level with 60% can take direct admission to bachelor’s degree programmes. Applicants who have 2 SPTM passes can have a direct entry.	Bachelor degree from a public university. Master’s degree holders can take entry to PhD studies.	GCSE English at grade C IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum 5.5 in each band) SPM 1119 grade C6 or above UEC English grade B6 or above. ( some courses may require more score) Minimum grade C is required for Singapore/Cambridge GCE O level studies.

Foundation Year is also available for students who don’t meet the academic entry requirements properly.

Students from Nepal:

Undergraduate	Postgraduate	English Requirements
Higher Secondary Certificate in year 12 from CBSE, NEB, HSEB with 65% grade to have a direct entry onto an UG program. GPA 2.8 or above. Applicants who study Edexcel or Cambridge A level curriculum.	At least 60% from a 3 year BA degree. At least 55% from a 4 year BE/BTech Degree. Master’s degree can take the entry for PhD studies.	At least 65% in 12th standard from Nepal in English with a Medium of Instruction. IELTS 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 ( some courses required extra score)

Students from Pakistan:

Overall average of 60% in the year 12. Students can have an advanced entry to the year 2 of a bachelor’s degree who have a 2 year bachelor degree with IELTS 6.0 or equivalent score. Students can take an advanced entry onto a bachelor’s degree who have HND qualification from Pakistani colleges.	A 4 year bachelor’s degree with GPA 2.2 or above out of 4.0 or at least 55% or above.
