e-Residence Permit in Malta

The e-Residence Permit is a document you’ll need to live in Malta if your student visa doesn’t cover your entire study time. After you arrive and register at the university, all international students staying for a year or more must apply for this permit. It acts like an ID card and, along with your passport, lets you travel within the Schengen Area.

The minimum financial requirement for a Maltese student visa is €854 for each month you’ll be staying in Malta, or the same amount in another currency. Your bank statement must show the last three months of transactions. You cannot use a proof of funds letter as the only way to show your bank balance in Malta.

Students need to give the immigration officers a travel insurance certificate that’s valid from the time they enter the Schengen area until the end of their course. The insurance must cover all Schengen countries and include at least €30,000 for medical expenses.
